These days it seems as if creative inspiration is just seeping into my pores and pouring out of every existing orifice.

Those of you who know me very well know I am absolutely obsessed with the architecture of Zaha Hadid… and those of you who see me on a regular basis know that I’m highly driven by couture fashion and vintage classics. In my mind… the relationship of architecture and fashion is a seamless concept.

So I nearly had an orgasm when I learned of Chanel Mobile Art, a traveling project Karl Lagerfeld created to commemorate the 50th anniversary of Coco Chanel’s iconic 2.55 quilted handbag. Inside the futuristic portable pavilion designed by Zaha Hadid, some of the most innovative artists exhibit their work that was inspired by the elements of the iconic Chanel bag. It’s a project that unites one of the greatest architects and one of the most timeless fashion inspirations of our time.

Chanel Mobile art has already landed in Hong Kong, Tokyo, New York, and will round out it’s tour in Moscow, London and Paris. Why oh why do I live in LA???

The other weekend, I found that I could solve a couple of those brain teaser block puzzles fairly quickly (like in less than a couple of minutes to be exact), surprising those around me, not to mention impressing my own self. I think the following Jenga-like cabin is a whole other story…

Architect Sou Fujimoto does his take on simplified living by mindlessly stacking 350mm wood squares. It brilliantly serves as a furnished home without any furniture. There are no separations for a floor, ceiling, or walls. However, what one might think is a floor actually serves as a chair, ceiling, or wall from various positions. The incorporated glass makes this bungalow weather-proof. Now that’s impressively genius! For more information, please see archDaily.

“In the high country of Karuizawa, Japan with pine tress and snow, under the eyes of a neighboring volcano, the sloping stone base of this wedding chapel unites the ascending concrete arches that project up and out of the natural terrain. For insulation from the cold, the self-supporting concrete arches are separated by double glass. The chapel turns in plan towards the south, affording a more uniform distribution of solar radiation from the sun that rolls westerly across the sky. The chapel is radiant heated by tubes of water in the floor. The thermal mass of rock, concrete, and marble floors make it energy effective. The doors, pulpit and pews were designed and hand-crafted from fine cherry wood on the site in a design-build process. As in Nature, the engineering of this chapel represents an integral expression of form. The number-one wedding chapel in the world, this wedding chapel provides over 4000 weddings a year.”
